Scoria, Drainage Products

Drainage products such as scoria 25/7mm are perfect to assist drainage in your landscaping or garden project. Originally used as a raw material for roading and building projects, scoria today is largely used as a drainage product. Scoria is formed by the rapid cooling of lava flows many years ago, the volcanic rock (scoria) is porous and promotes fast drainage. As it is very hardy scoria will maintain it's strength behind retaining walls and planter boxes, while still letting the water drain through. Other drainage products like drainage metal or finer grades of scoria are also available.

Screened scoria graded 25mm down to 7mm.

Colour:

Rich Red with brown tones.

Description:

Screened and graded volcanic rock. Quite sharp with jagged edges. Very porous and therefore as far as rock goes is very light.

Scoria is commonly used for:

Backfill behind retaining walls to prevent water build up. Drainage material in bottom of pots and planter boxes and commonly used as a decorative product. Sometimes scoria 25/7mm is used for pathways in low lying wet areas, it can be sharp underfoot so appropriate footwear is recommended.

Tip:

When using scoria behind retaining walls, the use of perforated plastic drainage pipe under neath the scoria is recommended to displace water.
